Many causes for each symptom
It is very rare that a specific symptom has a single root cause. Modern lives are filled with environmental, emotional and physical factors that add up to manifest in illness, pain and even chronic conditions. It’s quite possible that something you’re eating, drinking, breathing or living with is creating your health problem.
How do you feel today?
Are you living with chronic pain? Are your joints swollen? Do you get easily fatigued even after a good night’s rest? Does your stomach bother you, even if you have dry toast for breakfast?
How are you breathing today?
Does the smell of freshly laundered sheets or a clean bathroom leave you with blurry vision or a stopped-up nose? Can you tell that it’s spring – or a damp autumn day – without opening the front door?
How is your overall health?
Do you get pneumonia, bronchitis, or the flu – even when others around you are feeling fine? Would you like to pass a winter season without a pocketful of tissues and throat lozenges?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might be experiencing a food, chemical, or environmental allergy that is making you sick. Talk to Dr. Lippman.
“When I came to Dr. Lippman, I was facing having my sinuses scraped because of recurrent sinus infections. Her program saved me from surgery. My health has never been as good as since I started working with her. I am enormously grateful.” —Anne P
Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in Los Angeles
Conventional medicine’s goal is to locate the physical source of a particular disease and remove it. For example, if a patient has an infection, a conventional doctor would probably prescribe a specific antibiotic to kill invading bacteria. Conventional medicine’s focus is on the symptoms, diseases and/or disorders.
Dr. Lippman is a CAM practitioner , a holistic doctor, taking the approach of natural alternative medicine, also referred to as holistic alternative medicine.
CAM practitioners take a “holistic” approach to healthcare. They believe that health and disease involve a complex interaction of physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, and social factors. To treat a disease or promote good health, CAM practitioners treat the whole body by considering all of these factors.
Although alternative therapies are often based on hundreds – in some cases thousands – of years of experience, the conventional medical community relies heavily on scientific evidence (rather than clinical experience) when evaluating the safety and effectiveness of a particular therapy.
For this reason, many alternative practices that have not been or cannot be thoroughly tested are considered “unscientific” by modern Western standards. In addition, many non-Western healing practices are not taught in United States medical schools, are not available to patients in U.S. hospitals and are not covered by health insurance.
CAM is gradually becoming accepted into mainstream medicine. Breakthroughs in CAM research are frequently published in prestigious Western peer-reviewed journals such as the Annals of Internal Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association. Because conventional doctors and holistic practitioners both seek to create safe, effective, and affordable medical treatment for all patients, the integration of the best CAM into conventional medicine is inevitable.
